Disaster Successfully Averted - Obama Vacation Almost Cut Short!

Today while Barack and Michelle Obama jaunt across the Irish countryside researching Baracks family history on his endless vacation tour.  A cry from back home almost cut short this important historical research and globalization fiesta.  Fortunately only a short phone call away Barack Obama was able to handle this small hiccup in the same manner he handled the BP Gulf Oil crisis.  We should all have our prayers and thoughts going out to Mr. and Mrs. Obama as they narrowly averted this tragic disaster.  Thank the almighty we have a leader who is so in touch with the American people!

In minor news 89 killed, thousands homeless, Joplin MO. virtually destroyed.

So now a ambassadorial trip to our European allies is a vacation? Seriously?

He's supposed to cut it short because of a tornado?

fedupwithliberals,

1. It was with the handling of FEMA and no one getting there for days.

2. Hurricanes you have a day or two notice it will happen, tornadoes give you little to no warning.

3. Bush was not out of the country then

4. Hurricanes affect entire regions and tornadoes affect cities/counties.

5. No one wanted Bush there while it struck.

6. Large % of the National Guard for that area was in Iraq instead of in the state where it is suppose to be.

And really, all of these does not matter because none of these blaming is helping those that need help now. My prayers go out to the people of Joplin.

Have a good day.

Colonial, how much of the blame for the handling of Katrina should be directed at Gov. Blanco and Mayor Nagin?

And really, all of these does not matter because none of these blaming is helping those that need help now.

You're right, it doesn't help. It's just ironic that the same people who tried to crucify Bush are the ones defending Obama.

My prayers go out to the people of Joplin.

That's because Bush ignored the problem for days. He was literally playing guitar and eating birthday cake while people were drowning!

These two events are apples to oranges. Katrina killed over 1,800 people and caused more than $80 Billion in damage. Bush was in next state over on vacation and Obama is over in Ireland on a diplomatic visit. And no, I didn't blame most of it on Bush (who I voted for in 2000).

But please, can we not go into Katrina anymore? Let us be done with that. Agreed?

Have a good day.

Dear fedup,

Yep, this is curious...

Thelong standing criticism does not have its "bite" within the mainstream media when it comes to Pres Obama?

I think the continuous campaigning and vacations are serious at this time economic failure and another "not war" costing US more.

We still do not have Congressional approval for the action in Libya.

fedupwithliberals,

What is the connection? These are two different situations and I explained why above. Not every disaster needs to be used to score points again your opponent and not every event is comparable to another event in the past administration. The first thing should not see how to blame something on President Obama, it should be worrying and trying to help those affect by this disaster. There really isn't any point of these partisan attacks against President Obama on this incident, it does nothing but divide this country. That goes for any president and event.

Have a good day.

Deb,

Every president takes these trips and yes they are on ambassadorial trips. You might feel it is, but it actually is. Diplomatic relationships require trips to other countries because otherwise you insult them. Taking these trips is part of a president's job.

Colnial82,

First of all, your point about Bush at fault for New Orleans is false. It was Governor Blanco's fault, as TWO DAYS before Katrina hit, SHE refused Federal Assistance in evacuating and preparing for it. Secondly, when it did hit SHE and HER Administration REFUSED Red Cross and other access to New Orleans. Finally, Nagin refused to use anything to evacuate the city before Katrina hit, which actually led to much of the people suffering. I remember the pictures of fleets of school buses under water. I remember all of the people stranded in the Superdome. I remember the hospitals that were flooded, while nothing was done to get the patients out.

What does Katrina have to do with Joplin, MO? Nothing, other than the fact you make it a point to point out how much of Katrina was Bush's fault (despite all the facts laying it at the hands of Nagin and Blanco) while Joplin, MO is small in comparison and the President is out of the country seemingly unconcerned about the country burning ala Nero and Rome. But, your lack of acknowledging the facts of what happened in the lead up to, during, and after Katrina requires a rebuttal.

tomwcraig,

When was I blaming Bush for the whole Katrina? I already said I didn't really put the most of the blame on him (mostly only hiring Brown who never did anything with disaster response before) . When did I say the governor and Mayor didn't deserve a lot of the blame and criticism? Where did I even start to talk about the leadup? I give a lot of blame to delaying the work on the levees that should have been done years before. You want me to attack me about knowledge of Katrina, won't you save that for if we had an indepth discussion of it instead of a couple quick comments. All I was doing was saying the differences between the two disasters.

the President is out of the country seemingly unconcerned about the country burning ala Nero and Rome.

That is your opinion, he already reacted and acted on this disaster quickly after it happened, but you may have missed that.

Please do not put words in my mouth and make assumptions, I know for my experiences making assumptions don't always work out.

Have a good day.

I think you need to reread your post in #2.3. It gives the impression you were blaming everything during Katrina on Bush. My reference to Nero and Rome was meant as to what is going on as a whole here in the USA. Obama ignored the BP oil spill for a MONTH, while claiming it was BP's problem. Meanwhile, he was refusing offers to help from over 2 dozen countries and playing golf. Then, we have this huge economic mess and he keeps spending like we have an unlimited bank account despite the fact we have trillions of debt owed to the Chinese that can be called in on any day. It's sad, but Obama does not have our best interests at heart and keeps lying about it. This lack of interest in the USA's best interests have been evident since he took office. This is just one more piece in the saddlebags on the camel's back.

Obama ignored the BP oil spill for a MONTH, while claiming it was BP's problem

tomwcraig,

Who said he ignored it? BP told them they had it under control and they didn't need the government's help. We had the Coast Guard there quickly after it happened and people on the beach trying to protect the rivers. Plus if we would have stepped in right away, people would have yelled that we was taking over business (like how they said with GM). The blame should go squarely on BP and their subs.

Obama does not have our best interests at heart and keeps lying about it. This lack of interest in the USA's best interests have been evident since he took office.

That is your opinion. To say any President does not have our country's interests at heart is just wrong, they all care about the country, just have different views on how to make it better.

I think you need to reread your post in #2.3. It gives the impression you were blaming everything during Katrina on Bush.

I am sorry, but you misinterpreted that and you also did not read the rest of my posts in this thread where I stated it wasn't really Bush's fault. I was giving the differences between Katrina handling and Joplin, I am sorry if I was not clear on that.

Have a good day.

Because you seem a bit concerned that the President is in Ireland and then asked when his last trip to Israel was & I saw your seeds discussing his advice to Israel...that & your obvious concern for Israel as evidenced by course your moniker.

You use a tragedy where many lives were taken to promote your views. I find this article and many of the comments on it lacking basic morals and ethics. Maybe you would of passed on this article if you had to help pick up dead children from your neighbors yard. Or your friends house was completely gone and he and his family were no where to be found. To those that seem to "conveniently" forget their history - Bush served roughly 2,900 days as president and yet spent 895 days on vacation or 30% of the time.

Which was during two war, several nasty hurricanes (Dennis, Katerina, Rita to name a few) the melt down of the housing market, the melt down of Wall Street and the recession. Bush was hammered during the Katerina aftermath, because he praised FEMA "You're doing a hella of a job, Brownie" and FEMA had the situation totally screwed up. And was after all the money spent in disaster planning as result of 9-11 (four years prior).

Damn - imagine how much damage he could of caused it he took less vacation time.

But lately, it seems that it's the President's fault if you sneeze and he's not there with the Kleenex.

Ian, there is a huge difference between PERSONAL attacks and foul language. We are all adults here and I'm sure foul language can be tolerated by most. Personal attacks, however, will not and should not. If you have to sink to a personal attack on someone you disagree with then it's because you don't have a good argument in the first place. Sit back and think about why you feel the need to attack personally. Is it because that person has shown you to be wrong? Why not be an adult about it and say "I stand corrected" when you've been shown to be wrong.

If the US' stance for over 40 years was that Israel should go back to the 1967 borders, I doubt Israel would still be America's staunchest ally in the Middle East, would they?

Bush said a full withdrawal to the 1967 lines was "unrealistic" and a future peace agreement would have to recognize "new realities on the ground."

This is not what Obama said, and Obama used the word 'occupied', when talking about Israel.

So shall we use Obama's full quote where he states there should be mutually agreed upon land swaps? And again, Israel continues to push it's borders out and occupy land it is not supposed to. Is the President supposed to not mention that? The '67 borders have been the starting point for all negotiations and such was even fully outlined in the 91 Madrid Talks.

Talk about changing the subject, not one bit of comment you've provided to this thread is directed toward any fact regarding where the president is, and why he is there. But thanks for answering the other question. Ooops while I am on the subject do you happen to know the name of the island that in the later part of the 1800s and into the early 1900s that legal immigrants landed on and registered at when coming to this country in New York? Oh and in case of any confusion that would again be "legal immigrants". Not Obamagrants.

First, though, after traveling overnight from Washington aboard Air Force One, the president and first lady Michelle Obama met Ireland's President Mary McAleese at her official residence, and Obama participated in a tree planting ceremony.

He tossed shovels-full of dirt at the base of a young oak as children rang a peace bell marking the 10th anniversary of the Good Friday accord, the historic agreement that put Northern Ireland on the road to peace. Nearby stood trees planted in past visits by then-presidents Bill Clinton and John F. Kennedy, and one planted just last week by the queen of England during her visit here.

Indeed.

wow, thanks for the link, weaver. Let me see if I have this correct: Meet for drinks, plant a tree, (especially loved the description of how he helped plant the tree -LMBO), and then, dang, he is off to go find his roots.

Sounds like a guy I worked for who took a trip to Wash, DC. His family went with him, he had one meeting while there, and spent the rest of the time sightseeing, eating out, and staying in plush hotels - all on the company dime...kinda sounds like our Congress people too. Maybe that is where Obama learned the tricks of the trade. Then again, he was only in DC as a Senator for about 150 days....so maybe not.

Frankly, I do not care where he is today, we seem to do better when he is out of the country though...do I expect him to interrupt his trip because 100+ people were killed in a terrible tornado? Not really, but then again, Bush didn't get that courtesy - but I have to tell you, the libs getting their collective panties in a twist is kinda funny. Thanks for the humor!

It does seem like he's either entertaining someone here and having another big party at the WH, or he's going on some site seeing tour in another country and calling it business, or he's golfing, or campaigning or giving ANOTHER speech. The one thing he doesn't do much of is lead this country out of our problems. I've come to be glad when he's not home. It seems every time he is here, they pass some stupid law that spends more money we don't have. At least if he's out of the country he can't sign anything. I hope.

Sorry? I think you may have misread my post. I did no such thing. And my post at 4.4 was equally applicable to progressives. If you did it while Bush was President, don't complain when conservatives do the same to Obama. It's very simple. If you complain about something by reference to what someone else does, it creates a never-ending pass-the-blame circle. That's simply an observation about politics. I don't really see how that could be construed as blaming Bush for anything.

Katrina was different. The reason that turned out so badly is because the chain of command to ask for help was not followed. The mayor waited too long to evacuate. He should have done like the sheriffs on the East coast do when a hurricane is coming. You dont wanna leave, cool beans, but use this sharpie and write your ss# on your arm so we can identify your body. That usually gets people moving. THen governor Blanco has to ask for help in time for FEMA and whomever else to be able to get ready to get there as needed. She waited to long to ask and that ended up having the help stranded trying to get through the mess to bring Aide.

Individual mandate? They advocated for it before Obama put it in the HCR. Now they hate it. Katrina was different as the National Weather Service issued the warning a week prior that it could be a big one. Bush still went on vacation. It was several days if not a week before Bush visited the FEMA staging area and said "You're doing a hella of a job Brownie" when it was reported in the news that FEMA had the situation totally screwed up - and this was after four years of diasater planning and preparation from the fall out of 9-11 and it was still screwed up.

As to Obama's trip to Europe, it was planned several months prior to the tornado season starting. Besides the visit to Ireland and England, it included the G-8 summit.

This is just an excuse for the teabumlicans to get their 30 second sound bite on Faux "news?"

I can see it now, little Rushie gets a hang nail and the President has to cancel a summit with the some head of state to give little Rushie a Kleenex.

As to slamming our allies - Israel is not an ally of the US, because Israel only cares about Israel and they wouldn't think twice about throwing the US "under the bus" the first they could profit from it.

Name one thing that Israel has done for the US?

No, it wasnt all Bush's fault. The LOCAL authorities are the first line of defense. Bush couldnt make Nagin use those empty buses to get people the hell outta dodge. And Nagin couldnt make the people get on them and leave. The next line of defense is state government. Blanco waited too long to swing into action, and if somone was gonna make Nagin use the buses, it would have been her. SHE then had to ask for federal help in an adequate amount of time so it could be on stand by and not after the fact. After the fact, the National guard had trouble getting to the area because of the broken levees.

The head of FEMA was a joke though. Bush would have been better off askin his dad and Jeb for advice on what to do during a hurricane than that Brown fellow.

And of course what is special about Katrina is that the Levees didnt hold up. BUT, the 9th Ward used to be a swamp land. You cant hold the waters back forever, and Katrina let em loose.

Bush's own quote (stuttering the whole time) when accused of spending too much time away from the White House: "I'm looking forward to getting down there and just kind of settling in. and cutting brush. Don't forget the brush cutting.

I have no problems with President Bush cutting "brush" while on vacation, for the media or for himself to keep his property neat. I do have a problem with Obama cutting the throats of the American working man and woman when he's on "vacation".

The last time I checked, 'Hospitality,' especially in one's own home can go a long way to setting up an atmosphere of congeniality, moreso than the Whitehouse, which is viewed as more of a formal, government building. I wasn't a Bush-lover, but I think the man was very smart and often made the right decision (which included opposing Cheney, at times).

Well stated CL1 voted up. I did however "like" President Bush, but by extension that does not mean that I agreed with all of his policies or actions while he was in office. But, in "my" opinion...at least he acted in what he believed was the best interests of this country and I will not fault him for that.

Maybe if Bush wasn't on vacation 3 days a week for 8 years straight. And payed attention to all the warnings of possible terrorist's training in American flight schools . It would of saved America 11 trillion dollars. What a total failure the Republican party has been for the last 50 years. Bush/Cheney practically destroyed this country and all conservatives can do is bitch about Obama on a vacation.....Truly pathetic....Do any of you all ever have any answers to anything ? Or does it always just have to be a bitch fest with no answers ?

    Taao,

First of all, Obama is not a socialist and most liberals in Congress are not socialists. The only socialists is Senator Bernie Sanders so please do not just throw that term around. The Healthcare reform was less liberal than President Nixon's plan (where he invented the Public Option) in the 1970s and every much like the Republican counter (mandate created there) to Hillary's healthcare plan in 1994. So if that makes Obama and liberals socialists, then Nixon and the Republicans in 1994 were socialists too.

    Have a better day.

    Standwithisrael,

I know exactly what those mean. It is not always what someone says, but how you say it and the context.

So I'm offended every day by anti-Semites and people who think anyone who is Catholic is also a pedophile.

I am sorry you are offended every day, no one should have to go through that. Are you saying this to say you won't mock or offend anyone because you know how it feels so you don't want to do it to others? I know what you mean about being Catholic, since I am one but I am also upset with that whole situation and handling of it.

I've seen that type of reaction before Borncorn...I believe I have heard of it referred to as Ben Stein Syndrome. Hopefully we will be able to make you feel comfortable here...here I know.

    How about this?

I recently asked my friends' little girl what she wanted to be when she grows up. She said she wanted to be President of the United States. Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there. So I asked her, "If you were President, what would be the first thing you would do?" She replied, "I'd give food and houses to all the homeless people.." Her parents proudly beamed.

"Wow...what a worthy goal," I told her. "But you don't have to wait until you're President to do that. Tell you what - you can come over to my house and mow the lawn, pull weeds, and sweep my driveway, and I'll pay you $50. Then I'll take you over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $50 to use toward food and a new house." How about doing something wonderful like that? She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in the eye and asked, "Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and do the work, and you can just pay him the $50?" I said, "Welcome to the Republican Party."

    Anything? This?

"You May Be A Taliban If..."

    1. You refine heroin for a living, but you have a moral objection to liquor.

    2. You own a $3,000 machine gun and $5,000 rocket launcher, but you can't afford shoes.

    3. You have more wives than teeth.

    4. You wipe your butt with your bare hand, but consider bacon "unclean."

    5. You think vests come in two styles: bullet-proof and suicide.

    6. You can't think of anyone you haven't declared Jihad against.

    7. You consider television dangerous, but routinely carry explosives in your clothing.

    8. You were amazed to discover that cell phones have uses other than setting off roadside bombs.

    9. You have nothing against women and think every man should own at least four.

    10. You've always had a crush on your neighbor's goat.

    11. Your cousin is president of the United States.

How about now? I personally get a kick out of number 4!

The Show Me State will get through this without Obama coming through for photos.

The Governor mobilized the national guard and volunteers from multiple states were on hand in a matter of hours helping out their fellow citizens.

My oldest son lives about 10 miles from Joplin and while he had no damage at all, he has been looking for and helping friends all night.

The Red Cross is doing a great job helping the injured, homeless and distraught.

I just made a donation to the Red Cross and hope others will as well as they are helping people not just in Joplin but along the flooding Mississippi River and still in the southeast from the tornadoes last month.

To make a donation, visit www.redcross.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation

Great post, Robert in Ohio.. my heart goes out to those who are suffering through this most recent tragedy to hit our fellow citizens on the heels of the tornadoes that devastated the southern states less than a month ago, killing over 300 people, as well as the terrible flooding along the Mississippi.

Giving people a means of helping those in need is a wonderful thing for the givers and the recipients...

So after directing FEMA to mobilize whatever resources are needed the president should do what?

        1. Sit in the White House and twiddle his thumbs.
        2. Sit in the White House and micro-manage FEMA.

And you want government out of your life, but expect the President to be on hand at any event whatsoever! Get a grip. The fact that our President gets a heros welcome in Ireland, says more about those in this country that wouldn't give him the time of day, than it says about the President himself.

More accurately hate what the lying piece of @!$%# has done to this country.

When you have the Reps clapping and shouting for joy when America lost the Olympics,

Actually what I laughed about was how Obama lost his chance to pay back his campaign contributors that kept funneling money to pay for his Presidency. That had to be some serious egg he had to wash off his face. Guess unlike Obamacare money will buy only so much @!$%#.

They don't want this man to spend any money at all

How petty can people be when it comes to this President?

        ...and the beat goes on....

Seconds after the stunning announcement that Chicago had been eliminated from Olympic contention, GOP luminaries were Twittering away with glee, celebrating the USA's humiliating international loss, which, of course, embarrassed Obama, who made the trip to Copenhagen.

Newt Gingrich rolled all the bad-good news into a single Tweet, throwing Iran in for good measure: "President Obama fails to get the Olympics while unemployment goes to 9.8% Iran continues nuclear program. America needs focused leadership."

GOP operative Matt Machowiak was giddy, " Actually Obama got the flowers, not even the bronze"

RedState's Erick Erickson, actually laughed [in print]:

"Hahahahaha. I thought the world would love us more now that Bush was gone. I thought if we whored ourselves out to our enemies, great things would happen. Apparently not. So Obama’s pimped us to every two bit thug and dictator in the world, made promises to half the Olympic committee, and they did not even kiss him. So much for improving America’s standing in the world, Barry O."

The thing about lying is that is hard to remember the last lie you told. Better to change the subject. By the way, Taao, the lie is that the President is on vacation.

the lie is that the President is on vacation.

Too true. Of course they never complained about the head of the Bush Crime Family while he spent close to 30% of his time on actual vacations, golfing while kids were dying in one of the wars of choice he started nor cared one bit that he shut down the bin Laden unit.

The claim that when the President is on a state visit to another country (one of his duties in office) and attending the G8 summit is a "vacation" is ludicrous just on the face of it. Then they whine about the fact he is not showing up at every disaster while completely ignoring the fact that they supported the Shub's decision to spend time at a birthday party rather than rush to the largest single natural disaster in American history (Katrina). Yes. the hypocrisy is of epic proportions.

I've always found that comment amusing Don..Liberal humor and projection considering the one that usually leads the other lemmings to a cliff is known as an "Obama". Only he usually sits and makes sure the other lemmings jump after he has used them as company for his trek. Then discards them as useless and walks away from the cliff. Remember how Mr. Obama used the Latinos in 2008? Promising he would make immigration reform his "first priority"? How well did that work out for Latinos by the way? Of course he used the American people in the same fashion...glad to see him and Marie-Antoinette still being able to say "Qu'ils mangent de la brioche".

Todays trivia question...how many "first priorities" did Obama promise and carry through with?

I was wondering what was taking so long for the cons to come out with the old Obama is on vacation while America is burning (that is a metaphor) accusations since they got nothing else and will say and do anything they think might destroy the president. Oh, but do they underestimate the common sense of the majority of the American people.

And how do you compare the tornado in Missouri to Hurricane Katrina? Oh and by the way, Bush was in Arizona celebrating John McCain's birthday and fundraising during Katrina. Nothing can change that fact. Here are some photos.

Nice link, btw...with a url like that, don't think I'll go, but thanks for the invite.

Don't forget that many of us on here have donated our earning and whatever else we can to the Red Cross for disaster relief in MO, and so many other devastated part of the US. I was in Apison, TN today and there is still massive work to be done from the 50+ tornadoes that came through our area on April 27. Some still without power and using generators 3 weeks later...Joplin will be the same or worse. I pray for those people...sad indeed.

taao... whether you realize it or not, we all get attack at one time of another. I have wrote seeds and articles and have gotten attack. You wrote this seed and got attack. You have wrote anther seed and have gotten the same treatment. I just feel that if you are man or women enough to write a seed and article then you shouldlet people have their say. That goes to both sides and all parties.

Do you feel like you should be allowed to make a comment on a seed and article. Also you don't have to respond to that person at all. If you feel like you want to get so mean and nasty, then I suggest you take a deep breath and count o the highest # to calm down and proceed.

Well, if you would have looked at the 2 seeds instead of going by what someone else said (clearing my throat), I explained it right there on my seed. Huh, how about that? Maybe you ought to go read it for yourself.

Additionally, I am not married to a computer during the day and night, so I can not properly moderate the hatefest (using your favorite word) said seed would have ensued as I haveseen recently on here, and according to what happened to rickace (he was moderating his seed and the mods came and undid what he had done), so what's the point?

But If that is not enough, some people who are baiting conservative seeders are then complaining about the lack of moderation on seeds and reporting that to get people in trouble, huh, imagine that?...So, no, I won't risk getting a suspension while people play stupid games on a seed of mine. It will remain that way unless I can moderate it properly.

Hope that answers your questions, LIG and lee.

The majority of the American people know President Obama is in touch and on their side, unlike the conservative republicans.

As for you Robert, I guess several hours of vacation in his ancestral homeland on his way to the state visit in England, next door, is too much for a president that takes little to no time off. Jeez, get a grip.
